Brickies isn't in necessarily the best part of town and may even look a little run-down from the outside. However, me and buddy decided to stop in for a Friday afternoon beer. The place isn't too big and every seat at the bar was taken. We sat down at a table for a couple beers and an appetizer. The bartender was beyond friendly and the vibe in.
Description: The Bricklayers Arms is a family friendly, pet friendly village pub. We have a restaurant which provides traditional English pub fayre using fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers. Snacks are also available from the bar, as is a large variety of drinks including Bateman's Real Ale. In addition to the Bar & Restaurant, we have a very large beer garden with games & a play area for the kids to enjoy. We also have a large car park to the rear of the building.
The car park has external electricity points which can be used by caravans/camper vans who wish to stopover overnight. Team fortress 2 sprays. I have visited the Bricklayers' Arms in Old Leake on two occasions in the past four days: (1) for a meal with a friendly family of long-standing and (2) to take part as a member of the Little Peacock A Quiz Team in a Monday night Christmas-themed match against the home team. The pub was really attractive inside with unusual glass display cases, beautiful Christmas decor and attractive candle-lit tables. For the family meal we had a variety of very wholesome meals including steak and chips, lasagne, huge fish and chips and an amazing cheese salad. The portions were very generous and the food was of good quality.
For afters I had a delicious three scoops of ice cream and the youngest member enjoyed a waffle, though he found that there was a little too much syrup for his liking. After the Monday night quiz we were served a delicious portion of tuna cheese melt and chips which was a welcome change from the usual sandwiches served at other quiz venues. On 10 November had Sunday lunch here with friends. First ever visit. We found a clean and thriving establishment.
Chatter but not overly noisy, perfect. Our Sunday lunch could not have been better. The familiar choice of meats was available but I was also struck by the variety of vegetables on offer to which we were able to choose as much or as little as we wanted from. No restrictions at all. More vegetables on offer than many other places we have visited. The bar maid had acute hearing. That is to say that she was able to hear our group discussing which size of plate to choose.
Brilliant, loved it. Our servers were Jess and Joe for the most part and they did their jobs well.
Polite and well turned out. The other 2 members of staff on hand were also well turned out but I forget their names.
Would I visit again?.most certainly. Recommended for quality, cleanliness and price. Emails sent to Bricklayers Arms from the same person or group Hi we had a meal for 7 today a bit disappointed with the steak eye fillet nothing I've seen before not something I'm used to very fatty not the best sorry we will not be coming back. We’re sorry that you were not happy with your steak meal tonight. It’s a pity you didn't let us know at the time or when our staff checked to see if everything was ok, or even stopped one of us when we went past. We would of gladly replaced it with another one had you let us know. You mention that you have enjoyed eating eye fillet for 40 years. I myself have been cooking steaks for 30 years and our head chef for even longer. We have both worked in steakhouses and have not heard of an eye fillet before. The main three types of steak are Rump, Rib-eye and Fillet steaks.
We serve only Rump and Rib-eye. You chose Rib-eye on this occasion.
Rib-eye steaks tend to be a bit fatty naturally which is why I have a printed on the menu 'recommend medium cooked' I believe yours was medium rare. I recommend them medium because this breaks down the fat a bit more within the steak and makes them a lot easier to eat.
Yours unfortunately might have been fattier than normal. If so, I apologise for this. Reading between the lines however, it sounds like you were expecting Fillet Steak.
A fillet is a completely different cut and from a different area of the cow. The fillet is the leanest and most expensive out of the three steaks I have mentioned here. We do however apologise for the late delivery of one of your meals, sometimes accidents do happen in our the kitchen, ours is quite small and at busy times it can get a bit hectic in there. I believe that one of the chefs turned round with your meal and bumped into the other chef causing your dish to end on the floor. We therefore had to cook a second meal from scratch, which is why there was the extra 15 min wait for that meal. One last note, we can assure that we do not in any way substitute or pass off one thing for something else. To suggest so is both insulting and also libellous.
We have built up a very good reputation for our food as can be testified by the majority of the reviewers on this site.
